The Making of a Wedding in Greece

The Making of a Wedding in Greece

The sweetest thing of being a wedding planner is to help couples fulfill their dreams and making new friends

Why Santorini?
Greece has an extremely large number of islands, claiming close to 6000 islands in which about 227 are inhibited. Generally these inhibited islands are grouped into a few clusters: Northeastern Aegean, Sporades, Cyclades, Dodecanese, Ionians, Argosaronic and Crete. Santorini is a crescent-shaped island in the Cyclades group is absolutely a magically place on earth. The allure of its majestic landscape, sculptured by mother nature, brought many couples here to tie the knot. White-washed houses are in abundance in this sun-kissed island along with sprinkles of blue dome chapels make her such a sight to behold. Such romantic settings, beautiful sunset and not forgetting the warm hearts and big smiles of the Greeks make this place the favorite wedding destination in Europe.

Yasas!
Yasas is the most important word to know while in Greece. Generally it means “hello” in a rather formal way and also use for goodbye. And this is how we would welcome the couples and their guests when they set foot on the island. The spectacular sight of the Cycladic-style houses hanging precariously along the cliff is unbelievable and somewhat intimidating, their look says it all. As the unsurpassed view of the caldera and the volcano “Nea Kameni” revealed right in front of their eyes, I waited for their exclamation. I have always enjoy this moment because I would relive the exact emotion of mine a decade ago! An orientation of the island rightly follows and my welcome “ritual” is complete. This is really important to settle my folks down and make sure they are comfortable before the nervy wedding affair has its effect.

Wedding is an Art
Every couple is unique so is every wedding. Yet the anticipation and excitement leading to the wedding day remains unchanged. Preparation work began way before the wedding day. Wedding planners are jack of all trades and must have an eye for design and details. Handling the details is an art. From the venue selection to flora arrangement; from the guests list to logistics arrangement; from the day schedule to the ceremony proceeds, a wedding planner need to be on top on all things and aware of changes. Choosing the right partners is an art. That is why we work closely with the best vendors, suppliers and professionals on the island. Every successful wedding is a testament to our closely knitted collaboration and a reward to our perseverance and resoluteness.

Wedding Day
Coordination and setting up the ceremony area is one of the crucial part of the actual day preparation. You have to be meticulous in making sure the right people turn up in the right time with the right stuff. Wedding is a team effort, it is impossible to accomplish so many tasks alone. Most often than not, many events take place at the same time – bride getting ready; photoshoot session; guest arrangement; wedding reception and dinner. Keeping watch on the schedule becomes a big challenge. You will need help, a lot of help really. And I am always blessed and thankful to have good people around me when the most unexpected things happened.

Tips for Couple
Greece is extremely popular for romantic holidays and weddings. A dream destination wedding could take place in many locations but most are in off season during winter period. The good news is Greece enjoys the Mediterranean climate which promises mild winter and Santorini welcomes visitors all year around. April to May and September to early November are some of the preferred period due to comfortable breezy weather and better light for photos. Do plan ahead to secure the ideal venue and auspicious dates, especially so if couple is anticipating a wedding with guests. Don’t rush things, the couple have to first established some common understanding among themselves. Talk to a few wedding planners, not too many though to the extend of overwhelming with information and create unnecessary stress. Be honest with expectation, keep an open mind and a good communication channel. Trust and commit to work with your appointed planner. There! You are not too far from a dream wedding in Greece!

People look at a successful wedding from many perspectives. To me, what matters most is the journey and not the destination. All the little moments leading to the wedding will etched in our memories forever.
